VAR-ER-BLIR

Group Exhibition 2025 (Denmark)
A collaburation between Jeppe Hein, Frederik Næblerød and Eske Touborg.

VAR, ER, BLIR was an exhibition celebrating Christiania’s history through a combination of historical photography and contemporary artistic expression. Presented at Fabrikken and Byens Lys, the exhibition marked Christiania’s birthday and brought together a unique collection of photographs by internationally acclaimed French photographer François Lochon with new artistic interpretations of the Freetown’s history.

For Touborg, the project offered an opportunity to engage with this archive through a contemporary artistic intervention. Together with Jeppe Hein and Frederik Næblerød, Touborg transformed the staircase connecting Fabrikken and Byens Lys into a site-specific work, creating a visual transition between the historical photographic material and the present-day exhibition.

The intervention explored Christiania not simply as a historical place, but as a living environment shaped by creativity, community and individual expression. By introducing contemporary artistic voices into an exhibition centred around photographs from the Freetown’s early years, the project created a dialogue between different generations and artistic approaches.
