THE PARTY HAS LANDED

THE PARTY HAS LANDED Ø2,5M stainless steel sculpture. Acquired by Marselisborg Art Association with funding from Kirsten Gunnar Fonden, Aarhus.

THE PARTY HAS LANDED is a stainless steel sculpture measuring three meters in diameter acquired by Marselisborg Art Association which depicts of what seems like a giant disco ball that has floated in the sky only to fall down again. The sculpture shows the aftermath of a party that once where. In this altered state the viewer is now confronted with the dark side of a party. The time where the excitement that lifted everything up un the air is gone and the disco ball that once shined its light upon us has fallen to the ground.

In this punctured state the sculpture reflects the viewer in its mirror like surface and asks the viewer “what happens after the party?”, “Is the contrast between party and everyday life blue?” and “what is your joy now?”. As we often do when faced with a mirror surface we may at first seek the answer introvertedly in our own reflection but here we are face with an warped image of ourselves due to the many curves of the sculpture. When gazing upon other areas of the vast surface reflections of sea, sky and forest will meet our eyes. Placed in a picturesque scenery the sculpture is a marvel of reflections that may remind the viewer that even though the party is over there will always be beauty around us.
